Los Angeles International Airport
Since we were told at the last minute before departure that our base visit to NAS Fallon was canceled, we had to change some of the planning and there was no reason anymore to take a domestic flight to Reno Airport.
Therefore, it was decided with participants to spend the morning at Los Angeles International Airport and then drive to San Diego to visit the USS Midway.
First we took a seat on the terrace of The Proud Bird , an aviation-related eatery, where you are close to the approach of runway 25L
Then we drove a little further to near Clutter’s Park to photograph the aircraft in take-off.
Here you have enough space to park your car and benches are also provided.
USS Midway Museum
Shortly after noon we left for San Diego to visit the USS Midway.
This aircraft carrier was converted into a museum after its decommissioning on April 11, 1992 and is the only remaining inactive US aircraft carrier not of the Essex class.
You can also participate in free guided tours inside the ship, such as a visit to “the island” and see how people lived on board this carrier.
Top Gun Bar
Then we are still here Kansas City BBQ pulled to see the famous cafe from the movie Top Gun.
